The regular meeting of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly was held  
on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Borough Assembly Chambers, 350 E.  
Dahlia Avenue, Palmer, Alaska. The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. by  
Mayor Edna DeVries.

XII. MAYOR, ASSEMBLY, AND STAFF COMMENTS  
Mr. Spiropoulos spoke to the Clerk being the parliamentarian during  
Assembly meetings.  
Assemblymember Bernier said a prayer.  
Assemblymember Sumner spoke to his proposed amendments for  
Ordinance Serial No. 26-026.  
Assemblymember Nowers thanked the manager, spoke to possible school  
closures, and potential Old Glenn safety corridor.  
Ms. McKechnie spoke to attending the upcoming International Institute of  
Municipal Clerks Conference with Deputy Clerk, Estelle Wiese.  
Assemblymember Bowles spoke to Ordinance Serial No. 26-032 and to  
legislators in Juneau.  
Assemblymember Bowles moved to postpone the public hearing  
date of Ordinance Serial No. 26-032 from May 19, 2026, to June  
16, 2026.
